The Secret words of my harasser

This is a project I mainly made using a digital camera and a projector. This process brings the long-lasting issue of harassment into the modern world – away from the dated preconceptions that can still be seen in society today.

Words/sentences said by perpetrators that have mentally effected 'victims', are projected onto domestic spaces, showing the dark and lasting effects that seemingly 'nice' words have on the mental health of 'victims'.

At times the images are seemingly romantic, friendly and even heart-felt. It is when the deeper meaning is exposed that we can see the sinister issues behind the words. This is a reflection of certain cases of harassment when even the 'victims' aren't aware of the harassment that is happening to them.

The importance of the domestic spaces is that home is supposed to be a haven for struggling individuals, that can soon become a place of reflection, reminders and torment.

By using this technique, and playing with text, light and darkness, a ‘dreamlike’ and mysterious atmosphere is created. This exposes the ‘blurred lines’ that can be apparent when attempting to recognise a situation of harassment.
